An exciting new medical grade PP random copolymer has been introduced by HMC Polymers for injection stretch blow moulding (ISBM) and injection moulding (IM) applications.

The material, Purell RP271M, has been specifically designed for the production of IV and Irrigation bottles made by the two stage ISBM process.

Venaporn, HMC Polymers’ Medical Segment Manager said “Purell RP271M offers all the important properties needed for excellent processing and product end-use in this rapidly growing medical market segment. This Purell grade has achieved all the required pharmaceutical approvals (EP, USP Class 6) and is listed in the drug master file.”

Purell RP271M offers high levels of chemical and heat resistance and is therefore applicable for autoclave and ETO sterilization. Customers report that the resin provides excellent stability during processing and efficient manufacturing cycles are able to be achieved with relative ease.

In addition, and importantly for the medical device market, the random copolymer exhibits excellent optical properties with high clarity and low haze readings. RP271M also brings an outstanding balance of stiffness and impact for liquid dispensing bottles allowing the production of well formed bottles which deliver the required high levels of drop impact performance.

Purell RP271M random copolymer can also be used for the injection moulding of diagnostic items such as vials, caps, pipette plates and other medical products and packaging.
