International Moplen School

Ms. Oraphin Teerana-amornwong, HMC Polymers' Department Manager, Product Innovation & Technology and Mr. Veerapol Seearamrungruang, Senior Production Engineer, recently returned from the International Moplen School in Ferrara, Italy. The school is located at the Ferrara site of HMC joint venture associate LyondellBasell (LYB) – where the first production of Polypropylene took place in 1957.

Khun Oraphin and Khun Veerapol spent 6 months in degree studies in a collaboration that will further assist the technology transfer process between HMC and LYB.

For more than 25 years, the Ferrara site has organized high level degree courses at the site’s Giulio Natta Research Center, first in partnership with the University of Ferrara and now with the University of Rome, Sapienza. Students study theory and then, with the help of LYB technicians, put what they learn into practice at pilot plants and labs. During the program, they learn fundamentals on processes, technologies, catalysts and product applications.

“Investing in research means thinking about the future and believing in young people,” said Gabriele Mei, R&D director at the Ferrara site. “For more than 20 years our commitment has been, and still is, focused on building a bridge between the academy and the industry to not only help students prepare for working at a company, but providing us with some valuable insight.”
