New HECO Outperforms Tests

To succeed in the business of moulding high volume pails for paint and building materials, industry producers need a good looking, stiff product that moulds thin walls fast, allows easy labeling and will survive demanding drop test challenges.
A manufacturing customer came to HMC Polymers recently seeking a high impact copolymer PP for a paint pail that would outperform their current product in the field, provide processing upgrades including in-mould labeling and deliver energy use savings. The product they tested and approved was HMC's Moplen EP6004. They found that EP6004 offered a combination of high flow and good impact resistance with a thinner wall than their previous paint pail product. The stiffness of the moulded product was also critical in order to maintain shape when loaded and stacked five units high for logistics and retail environments.
Moplen EP6004 was the only product tested that survived a rigorous 2 metre loaded drop test - quite an achievement - and this was with reduced levels of expensive additives.
In addition to the impact/stiffness capabilities of EP6004, the customer was also pleased to learn about some additional cost saving benefits.
The high flow rate and short cycle time of the product meant lower temperature processing and reduced machine and mould maintenance due to a lower clamp tonnage requirement; yielding around 10% savings in energy costs - with reduced internal part stresses. Higher volume, lower costs.
Also, the low blush and printability of EP6004, including in-mould labeling offered aesthetic benefits while lowering part rejections and waste.
Moplen EP6004 is well suited to products such as paint pails - it is also a good choice for industrial containers, housewares, luggage and small appliances - products that need to mould fast, survive impact and keep looking good.
