High Speed HOMO for Raffia

HMC Polymers is pleased to announce that HP6011 has successfully passed stringent field testing and is now commercialized and will be marketed as Moplen HP500L.
HP500L is an exciting new PP homopolymer grade designed to offer a raft of new benefits for applications such as the high speed production of raffia. HP500L was created with high speed raffia machines clearly in mind and was trialled at line speeds from 200 m/min, up to 600 m/min, the highest speed currently available to the market.
Current polypropylene raffia grades have melt flow rates in the range of 2-4, while HP500L offers a melt flow rate of 6. Naturally, the higher melt flow allows HMC customers to achieve higher output with faster speeds – with Moplen HP500L still maintaining physical properties at the accelerated production speed.
The results of HP500L trials were:
- For 590 denier + 15% filler, 590 denier + 20% filler and 800 denier + 15% filler, at a 5.1 stretching ratio, HP500L runs at maximum line speeds (600m/min) with very stable processing, good stretching performance and an excellent balance of tenacity and elongation.
- For 550 denier + 40% filler, at a 5.0 stretching ratio, HP500L can run at 550 m/min with stable processing and acceptable tenacity and elongation.
HP500L homopolymer offers properties which are applicable to a wide range of customer product applications, in particular: process stability for maximum speed raffia production for a variety of deniers using high filler loading. HP500L offers good tape properties and a good balance of tenacity and elongation.
Moplen HP500L benefits
- Good processability for both low and high denier products
- High tensile strength
- Good stiffness/impact balance
- Lower using energy compare to conventional grades
- Improved tenacity for small bags
- Good heat resistance (for hot fillable production)
