These products include: Tiffy (cold medicine), Difelene (joint pain medicine), Sara (pain and fever reducer), Antacil (antacid), Neotica Balm (analgesic cream for muscular pain), Benda 500 (anti-worm, anti parasite chewable tablet) and many other well accepted pharmaceutical products.

Interview
“Thai Nakorn Patana was established in 1979 as a family business by Khun Vinai Virapuchong and we are now in the second generation. My primary responsibilities are for the overall management and strategy of the company’s marketing and production. For us it’s imperative that our products are safe and effective, and in full compliance with the standards set by the Food and Drug Administration,” said Khun Varodom.

All medicines manufactured by Thai Nakorn Patana are assured of having the following characteristics:

  • They are safe.
  • They have full efficacy, producing an appropriate functional response in the right dosage.
  • They are chemically and physically stable throughout their shelf life.
  • The products and their effects are fully described to users.

Due to the high level of competition in the industry, Khun Varodom explained the major differentiators and focus for Thai Nakorn Patana, versus other competitive companies, are in the areas of product efficacy, production quality, branding and of course, price. “We realize that consumers view and value different products with different perceptions. Our goal is to produce qualified medicines that people know and trust at reasonable prices” Khun Varodom said.

“I think high-quality medicine is often proven by how fast the desired result is achieved. Naturally, quality and price have to be aligned. That’s why Thai Nakorn Patana works through its research and development program to ensure optimal quality of all our medicines”

Thai Nakorn Patana currently uses Purell RP271M and Purell RP271G medical grade polypropylene from HMC Polymers for its saline solution bottles. However, for many years they had produced saline solution bottles for hospitals in Thailand and Southeast Asia using polyethylene. In 2012, the company decided to make the change to PP from HMC and found that the Purell medical PP grades offered significant benefits for the production of saline solution bottles.

PP provides better levels of clarity making it easier to inspect possible liquid contamination in the bottle. PP can be sterilized at higher temperatures than PE and as a result, less production time is needed to steam sterilize PP bottles – saving energy costs and increasing throughput.

Purell PP grades for the medical market are made under specific manufacturing procedures and offer consistency of formulation, continuity of supply, and are certified according to regulatory standards such as US Pharmacopeia, European Pharmacopeia and Drug Master File listing supporting the use of the resins in medical and pharmaceutical applications.

In selecting HMC Polymers as a supplier, Khun Varodom and his team had a high level of confidence due to the Purell experience of over thirty years adherence to strict medical and pharmaceutical protocols. In addition, Thai Nakorn Patana was also pleased to have a good level of control over delivery time from its domestic supplier HMC, helping to maintain lower cost versus the importation of raw materials from outside the region.

Unique in the polyolefins industry, the Purell product and service protocols exemplify the spirit of pharmaceutical good manufacturing practice (GMP) – awareness, change control and documentation – while supporting customer’s requirements to de-risk their applications.
