Goal Zero Safety Award 2011

HMC Polymers, along with our major shareholders, PTT and LyondellBasell, are dedicated to continuously improving our approach to process safety and the personal safety of our employees, contractors and communities. For the joint venture partners, nothing is more important.

Recently, HMC was presented with the LyondellBasell Goal Zero Award for safety performance in 2011. Goal Zero Awards are presented to LyondellBasell and joint-venture facilities that achieve a year with zero recordable injuries or incidents.

Last year, across all HMC plant facilities and office locations, the company experienced zero recordable injuries and environmental incidents.

To put that into perspective, the result of zero recordable injuries and incidents extended over more than one million man-hours in year 2011. In addition, as of the end of 2011, HMC Polymers had achieved 18 months and 1.7 million man-hours in total over all locations without a recordable injury or incident.

What does Goal Zero mean? For HMC it is quite clear, unambiguous and a focus for every employee in every job - not just those working at the plants. It is about working error free to the right system, with the right mindset.

The aspirations of Goal Zero are built into the HMC Polymers' HSE Management program and reflect our commitment to operate our business safely and responsibly each and every day, causing no harm to ourselves, our co-workers or our neighboring communities. It is a measure of our performance in occupational safety, process safety and environmental stewardship.

Goal Zero is a value, meaning that neither we nor our joint venture partners will ever allow the safe and responsible operation of our facilities to be compromised for any competing priority. Our belief is that each one of us has the power and the responsibility to achieve a perfect performance – one task at a time, one day at a time, one project at a time.

HMC regards the health and safety of our employees and stakeholders as a business-critical issue and along with the HSE focus on programs such as Goal Zero, we encourage a broad-based approach to everyday health challenges.

HMC Polymers' management congratulates all employees for their contribution to the excellent result of no injuries or incidents in 2011 acknowledged by the LyondellBasell Goal Zero award. In receiving this recognition, the challenge and commitment is always to maintain and extend the high standards already set for workplace safety.
