Thermoforming Fast and Clear
For polypropylene grades designed for high volume thermoforming, the customer requirement and our R&D challenge is to push the boundaries of stiffness, clarity, impact and processing - all at the same time.
Introducing Moplen HP741H (formerly development grade: HP6014) the resin developed with the objectives of our thermoforming customers firmly in mind. HP741H is a new, enhanced, specialty polypropylene homopolymer created to deliver exceptional capability for specialty extrusion profiles, conventional sheet extrusion and thermoforming.
Moplen HP741H provides a good stiffness/impact balance, good capabilities for stretching and efficient processing. The high stiffness of the resin offers opportunities for thinwalling and source reduction, and the high impact resistance provides protection for packaged goods - particularly in transit.
When compared with the current product, Moplen HP741H maintains these capabilities and delivers a wider processing window and improved optical properties with higher levels of clarity and gloss. This wider processing window offers real benefits to thermoforming processors in terms of making the sheet and forming the containers - especially deep draw cups.
Versus the current product, customers report reductions of 7°C for extrusion temperature, 30°C for oven temperature and a forming shot per minute increase of 9% with a final product of higher optical quality.
Customers are using Moplen HP741H for high volume clear thermoformed cups for drinking water, coffee or juice, and containers for fruit in syrup and processed food.
