HMC Hosts CCPS 2021

On Tuesday, April 27, 2021, HMC Polymers was proud to be the meeting host for the 2021 CCPS South East Asia Regional Member Meeting. The annual meeting was a virtual event focused on how to manage employee and process safety during the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The aim of the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) in conducting the SE Asia Regional Meeting is to share the experiences, practice and learning that each country in SEA has utilized in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly with respect to:

  • Addressing operational challenges during periods of global disruption and managing potential threats to process safety.
  • Controlling process risks at specific facilities to ensure acceptable pre-COVID levels without compromising safety standards because of possible resource limitations due to the pandemic.

All online attendees were acknowledged and shared Process Safety Management information and experiences of their respective companies in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand from the beginning of the outbreak until now, with discussion topics including:

  • The changing work environment for field-based activities
  • Requirement for new skills acquisition for staff
  • Corporate risk-based decision making
  • Approaches to business continuity and planning for change
  • Supply chain impact and handling
  • Corporate policy on vaccination
  • How companies transition to a more sustainable post–pandemic future

Khun Chatri Phlappla, HMC's VP, Operational Excellence gave a warm welcome and opening comments to all members participating in this virtual event. Mr. Shakeel Kadri, Executive Director & CEO of CCPS also addressed participants and discussed the benefits they bring to the event in sharing experiences and information which has been critical as companies have had to adapt quickly to a fluid and unpredictable business and operating environment.

Khun Kunthira Kheanprasit, HMC PSM Manager joined the panel discussion with the interesting topic of “How Process Safety is Managed During COVID-19" with valuable ideas and approaches offered from the group.

The CCPS SE Asia Regional Member Meeting delivered positive feedback with practice sharing and learning from presenters and active attendees. A conclusion was that everyone is learning as they proceed during this disruptive period of Coronavirus and events providing information transfer of practical and proven solutions to problems encountered by others within the industry is very worthwhile.
