Since the 2nd half of 2021, HMC has originated a new contribution campaign under the anti-COVID-19 theme “Love & Care” Campaign (10MTHB). Following that successful initiative to Thai hospitals in need in the 1st half of 2021, we received valuable feedback from medical personnel and frontline workers that due to their critical tasks and level of isolation required, they would like to have higher protection from suspected fluids.

As part of that feedback, HMC was also provided with detailed information that was in turn utilised along with additional product research. Those findings served as a blueprint for the design of an upgraded isolation gown made from PP film which would deliver an improved level of protection to those on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19.

Khun Buphapan Panthong, HMC Public Affairs and CSR Manager explained details concerning the new PP film isolation gown to Rayong provincial health chief Dr. Sunthorn Rienpoomkarnkit.

The HMC PP impact copolymer, Moplen EP310D, which provides excellent toughness and chemical resistance was the chosen material for the PP film used for the new PPE Level 3 isolation gowns manufactured by our valued customer Polyplex (Thailand) Public Company Limited. For this project, HMC collaborated closely with Polyplex and the exporting company to ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015; ISO 14001:2015; and ISO 13485:2016. We sincerely thank Polyplex for their fine project support. The gown design prototype was made and tested at the Foundation for Industrial Development Thailand Textile Institute - Textile Testing Center. That testing was made in accordance with the ANSI/AAMI PB70 standard to evaluate the barrier effectiveness of the PPE isolation gowns.

This successful development complies with PPE Level 3 in line with the ANSI/AAMI PB70 standard. As part of the PPE Level 3 qualification, the PP film has the required hydrostatic resistance (AATCC127, > 200 cmH20) and impact penetration (AATCC42, <1.0 g.). These product capabilities ensure that our new generation isolation gown offers enhanced protection to workers and medical staff from COVID-19 infected patients.

To date, HMC has delivered over 16,000 PP film isolation gowns and 8,000 sets of coveralls made from DuPont™ Tyvek®; 400, 500 and 600. These PPE items have been distributed to city hospitals, field hospitals, community isolation centers and volunteer teams nationwide.

The HMC isolation gown initiative is one part of the HMC Love & Care campaign designed to assist the fight against COVID-19. That campaign has 4 categories:

  • PPE and equipment donations (including PP patient bedding) to medical staff and field hospitals
  • Food and survival bag support donated to needy persons and communities
  • HMC Love & Care set boxes provided to customers and partners
  • HMC Love & Care set boxes provided to all HMC employees and direct contractors

Channeling the first HMC Core Behavior of Customer Focus, the feedback the HMC community response team has received from our interaction with users has been extremely valuable to the success of this program.

We intend to continue the development of the PHP level 3 PP film isolation gown to serve the needs of healthcare and medical customers now and into the near future; and we look forward to providing additional support to front-line workers and medical staff through this difficult period.
