HMC Product Highlights
Interview with Khun Chookiat Kosintrakarn, VP Sales & Innovation
On the 35th anniversary of HMC in 2018, we successfully developed a number of innovative products which are manufactured leveraging LyondellBasell's Spherizone technology. These products have already received excellent market acceptance and have since release been in continuous supply to major customers meeting their special requirements for advanced PP product capabilities, providing them with regional manufacture and delivery rather than the need to import similar products from Europe.
This has made HMC the strategic supplier of choice for high quality PP products in the region and also serves to further emphasize our business philosophy in terms of Market Leading Innovation which is a key pillar of HMC’s Business Strategy.
This year we plan to significantly grow the market for our highlighted Spherizone products in 3 target applications:
1. PP PIPE APPLICATIONS – consisting of 2 grades:
Hostalen PP Pipe grades are the latest addition to the HMC product portfolio. Our innovation program has targeted this important application in response to the mega-trend in the Pipe construction market which demands a higher standard of material properties than conventional plastic pipes such as PE, PVC iron pipe and cement based materials can offer. PP Pipe is the optimal solution considering its distinctive superior physical properties.
For Pipe applications, HMC is introducing and promoting our products at a number of events, exhibitions and seminars during Q1-Q3 period of this year. They include:
- ArabPlast Dubai, UAE
- Propak Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam
- ChinaPlas Guangzhou, China
- Events organized by other Pipe Associations
In addition, we are following up with customer visits in Asia and other locations.
1.1 Hostalen PPR H5416T – Pressure Pipe & Hot Water Distribution
Intended for building and home applications. This grade has enjoyed continuous growth in China as well as in emerging markets in Asia and has been ISO-9080 certified, meeting all applicable hot water standards and the PPR-100 cold water classification.
1.2 Hostalen PPHM H2483 – Drainage & Sewage Pipe Systems
This product has been a major success in the field of water pipe systems construction, with high stiffness supporting in particular the more sophisticated double wall and spiral wound large diameter applications. This year, we plan to expand the market into countries in Asia.
2. PACKAGING FILM – consisting of 3 grades:
A dynamic change of consumer behaviour in food and goods consumption has created the need for high performance packaging that effectively accommodates modern life styles and preferences. To satisfy these requirements, we have developed PP Terpolymer film featuring a low sealing temperature with outstanding properties specifically for a variety of film segments.
In Asia Pacific, the total demand of flexible packaging continues to grow reflecting that modern trend. We are targeting our products to ensure we command a significant market share in emerging markets.
For this application, we are closely collaborating with our film converter customers to conduct step-by-step sample trials, first order testing and scaling to full commercialization to ensure that our products fulfil the specific requirements of their designated film application.
In addition, we are organizing product roadshows at major Plastics Exhibitions in the Asia and Asia Pacific regions including:
- ArabPlast Dubai, UAE
- Propak Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam
- ChinaPlas Guangzhou, China
- HMC Annual Seminar and product training in Thailand
2.1 Adsyl 6093 – Terpolymer for skin layer with low sealing temperature for CPP
2.2 Adsyl 6089 – Terpolymer with low sealing temperature for POF or Shrink Film
2.3 Clyrell RC 2472 – Printing and sealing layer for BOPP film
We also have one excellent PP grade for printing film with in-mold labelling that has been successfully launched in the India market.
3. DIELECTRIC BOPP FILM
This grade is an HMC disruptive product intended for the film used in capacitor applications made for the first time on modern low cost PP technology. Capacitors are one of the essential components in many electrical appliances that we use in our daily life. Our major markets are in Asia and other regions.
In dealing with this sensitive application, we are closely collaborating with customers and providing full support with sample trials for their film processing. We plan to visit customers in addition to conducting the product roadshow at ChinaPlas.
3.1 Moplen HP6047 – High Purity BOPP Film (Dielectric BOPP Film)
