HSE Policy

As a manufacturer of polypropylene products we have a responsibility to operate in a safe and reliable manner. We will manage our production to ensure that:
  • The health and safety of employees, contractors, customers, and the public is of highest importance with everything we do
  • We protect the environment of communities in which we operate
  • We maintain an open and positive relationship with our stakeholders
  • We strive for full compliance and continuous improvement in our Responsible Care, HSE Management, Environmental Management and Quality Management programs to deliver excellent business results and build a positive relationship with our stakeholders

HSE Management System

The HMC Polymers’ Health, Safety, and Environmental Management System defines and monitors our management performance and staff to ensure all employees understand the requirements and effectively respond to safeguard the health and safety of our stakeholders, the community and our colleagues.

We are individually accountable for our actions and results, and we take HSE management seriously. As committed stewards we will do our best to act responsibly in everything that we do.

We communicate openly with all stakeholders on health, safety and environmental issues and provide workplace policies, standards, procedures and training to enable employees and contractors to perform their jobs in a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible manner.

Full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations is a fundamental corporate practice, or where appropriate, the application of a relevant company standard if more stringent.

At HMC Polymers, we believe that zero TRC (injuries and process incidents) is attainable and that is always our goal. We are committed to continuous improvement based on sound science, risk assessment and benefit analysis, and to measure, audit and communicate our performance honestly to all stakeholders.

Environment Management System

HMC Polymers has established an Environment Management System (EMS) to manage its environmental programs in a comprehensive, systematic, and documented manner. The EMS enables HMC Polymers to establish and assess the effectiveness of procedures, and to set an environmental policy with clear and measurable objectives.

HSE Reporting – Definitions

Total Recordable Cases (TRC)
Accidents resulting in absence from work, or the requirement to do a different type of work, or any other case in which medical treatment is required. The frequency is calculated as the number of accidents per million working hours. HMC Polymers’ employees and also contractors working on company premises are included in the TRC calculation.

Energy Consumption
Consumption of all energy vectors (i.e. fuels, electricity and steam). Electricity and steam are converted into primary energy with standard conversion factors of 40% (electricity) and 90% (steam).

Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Emissions
Emissions of all organic compounds (from C1 to Cn) with a vapour pressure of 0.01 kPa or more, at either room temperature or at actual temperature when processed. The quantification is based on measurements and estimates.

Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) Emissions
Emissions of all nitrogen oxides from all relevant sources, including flares. The emissions are quantified as NO2. When NOx measurements are not done, emission factors correlated to the fuel type and heating value are used.

Water Withdrawal
Total amount of fresh water withdrawn from surface or groundwater sources for any type of usage (e.g. cooling, steam generation, cleaning, sanitary use).

The Chemical Oxygen Demand – a measure of water pollution. It is the amount of oxygen needed for chemical oxidation of contaminants in wastewater.

Waste Generation
Generation of all waste at HMC Polymers’ company locations during normal operations as well as during special projects. Any substance or object that is to be disposed is included in the definition of waste. Exceptions are atmospheric emissions, liquid effluents and by-products with commercial value. All waste generated by HMC were managed under HMC’s Sustainable Policy in accordance to achieve the Zero Waste to Landfill objective.

Responsible Care®
Responsible Care is the chemical industry’s global voluntary initiative under which companies, through their national associations work together to continuously improve their health, safety and environmental performance, and to communicate with stakeholders about their products and processes.

HMC Polymers is an original member of the initiative and has established a Responsible Care program in Thailand under the Petrochemical Industry Club, Federation of Thai Industries (FTIPC).

The Responsible Care initiative assists our industry to optimize safety and act with care for generations to come. Responsible Care was commended by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) as making a significant contribution to sustainability at the World Summit on Sustainability in 2002.

Responsible Care membership requires a corporate commitment to uphold the following operating elements:
  • Measuring and publicly reporting performance
  • Implementing the Responsible Care Security Code
  • Applying the modern Responsible Care management system to achieve and verify results
  • Obtaining independent certification that a management system is in place and functions according to professional standards

At HMC Polymers, Responsible Care is a cornerstone part of our HSE operating policy. While we take pride in results already achieved, we continue to strive toward performance improvements in all areas of health, safety and the environment.
