HMC Polymers is a market leader in specialty polypropylene in Thailand. HMC Polymers established the first polypropylene manufacturing facility in Thailand in 1987 and today's capacity is 450,000 metric tons per annum. But the expansion and modernization of its facilities has not stopped yet. In 2006 a decision was made to invest in a Spherizone plant with a production capacity of 300,000 metric tons per annum which will commence operations in mid-2009. Spherizone is a state-of-the-art polypropylene manufacturing technology that allows the manufacture of innovative resins with properties beyond the known properties of polypropylene. There provides excellent potential for satisfying the special needs of HMC Polymers customers in the future A Further strategic investment in vertical (feedstock) integration has been made with the decision to build a propane dehydrogenation plant (PDH) which is also due to commence operations mid 2009.

In connection with these new projects – vertical feedstock integration and value-added polyolefins capability – the shareholder structure of HMC Polymers has changed. PTT Plc, Thailand's leading energy corporation, became a significant shareholder in HMC Polymers in August 2006. Other joint venture partners include Bangkok Bank Plc., a leading financial institution in Thailand; and LyondellBasell, the world's largest producer of polypropylene, a leading supplier of catalysts and global leader in the development and licensing of polypropylene processes.
